What a gorgeous purple felt wide brim hat from the fashionable 1940s\'! The round crown is barely visible due to the draped velvety fabric trim in purple and fuchsia! The brim is wide and lays almost flat. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to help keep it in place. What a fashion statement from the house of Montabert!
The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials.

Germaine Montabert was a prominent 20th-century New York milliner known for her high-fashion hats. Originally from France, she founded her millinery business in 1917 and became a significant figure in the American hat-making industry until her retirement in 1956.
Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
