These vintage metal glasses are a wearable piece of New York City history, and feature period-relevant intricate engraved patterns, from the delicate bridge design to the ornate temple details. Better yet? They function like my modern 1.5x readers. The original retailer\'s case from John Hill\'s Eighth Avenue shop (at 47th Street) takes us back to the pre-1880s when Manhattan was still finding its grid, and locations were marked by street corners instead of numbers. Details: • Period: Victorian (circa 1860s-1880s) • Material: Metal frames with early plastic nose pads • Design: Round wire rim with decorative pattern work • Original Case: John Hill, Eighth Avenue corner of 47th St, New York • Prescription: Unknown, but seem to have same strength as modern 1.5x readers Measurements: (All approximate) • Weight: 23g (spectacles), 78g (case) • Case: 5\" long x 3\" wide x 5/8 inch deep • Frames: 12.3cm Bridge, 10.8cm Temple Length, Lens Width 4cm Condition: Excellent vintage condition with expected gentle wear. The case, while showing wear to the interior velvet, remains sturdy and functional. ?
